Cameron Moll has an interesting post about what may be an ideal model for "creative pause": the shower. I do find that my best ideas come to me when I'm in the shower, walking to the bathroom at work, walking to work, or other times when I'm unconsciously switching myself off for a few minutes and allowing my thoughts to wander.
This is also a great thing to do when you're feeling blocked creatively whether it is with visual design, user experience design, or technical design problems. Take a breather and let yourself hit the pause button on your mind for a minute or two.
