Site News: New theme design in the works and more
Since 2009 is nearly upon us, I thought I’d take this opportunity to arrive at a new theme design for the site. 2009 seems to be all about change so I feel the need to join in the positive change. The theme will hopefully be one that would make for easier updates and upgrades and improve the site performance overall. Of course, it should also be aesthetically pleasing.
For those interested, the existing design has been kicking around since Creative Toolbox was created. It’s a somewhat customized version of the WordPress theme K2. To its credit, K2 is a great theme and really much more than just a presentation theme. It’s really a mod to WordPress. But regrettably, all these modifications come at a price of making the site feel much slower to me than other WP sites and makes it rather difficult to keep up with WordPress upgrades as they come down the pike.
So even though I’ve attempted this before, my plan this time around is to really seek out an off-the-shelf WordPress theme that has everything going for it (including what I mention above). It’s astounding how much the market for nicely designed WordPress themes has taken off over time. Some are free and some are pay but either way the market is now burgeoning with incredible amount of great options to choose from.
I’m also kicking around the idea of expanding Creative Toolbox to discuss more about what I now do day-to-day. This is really around web design. So some of these discussions won’t directly focus with using Adobe Creative Suite or Apple software but dig deeper into more about HTML, CSS and all my favorite tools I use to build up this code and resulting designs. I’ve debated doing this is past since I felt it opened up the focus of Creative Toolbox too much. But as they say, write what you know. So I guess for 2009, the Creative Toolbox tagline could include: *now with more web design goodness.
There we have it. Highly possible, exciting changes in the works for Creative Toolbox. I just wanted to give you all a heads up since you may be seeing some big changes happening to the site in the next week or so. And by all means, let me know what you think of all this. Is the change to adding more web design content good or bad to you? Do you want more content about Version Cue and the five other strange apps that Adobe Creative Suite installs? Do you like the new design or not (once it’s applied that is)?

I like it. As you saw with my letter in the calendar package, I’ve been in and out of the hospital. So I haven’t been keeping up with the Toolbox.
Before my first visit to the hospital my 12″ iBook bit the dust so I went out and bought the 15.3 MacBook Pro. While I was recovering from surgery at home Apple announced the new laptops. I was just as happy with the older model. Very peppy.

Hi Dan,
Yes, I just got your calendar package and letter last night. Man, it sounds like you’ve had a rough year. I hope 2009 is more happy and healthier for you. I wish you all the best.
I just got a new MacBook from work. I love it. The improved video and aluminum shell fixes up the two things that irked me on the older MacBook. But yeah, the new MacBooks are really peppy.
