Adobe vs. Quark DTP War Continues

Adobe vs. Quark DTP War Continues. According to a Macworld UK poll, some InDesign users aren’t that far from considering going back to QuarkXPress. It’s an interesting article reflecting on how some designers are feeling about Universal support as well as customer support from these two desktop publishing giants. MacBooks Released

MacBook So it appears I was wrong with my original assessment that the iBooks would keep their name. But this was before I read the rumor that Apple’s intent was to consolidate the iBook and PowerBook 12″ line under the MacBook name. This makes a whole lot of sense and not only does away with two choices (12″ vs. 14″) in the iBook line, but eliminates having to choose between a 12″ iBook and a 12″ PowerBook. Which until now was really becoming difficult to differentiate between them. The new MacBooks include a 13″ glossy, widescreen display and comes in black or white.

So I’ve dug a bit deeper in the specs of the new MacBook compared to the speed bumped MacBook Pro. Some differences may be obvious at first, some may not:

Adobe Releases Spry to Help with AJAX Programming

Adobe has released a free preview version of their new programming framework, Spry. Spry enables you to incorporate XML data into your HTML using what you may already be familiar with: HTML, CSS, and a minimal amount of Javascript, without requiring the entire page to refresh. Yes, that’s AJAX for any of you keeping score at home.

More on the Adobe FreeHand Migration Guides

A couple weeks ago I wrote about Adobe’s recent release of FreeHand to Illustrator migration guides. Although I posed the question if the writing was on the wall for FreeHand, my intent was never to cast out harmful speculations to the creative community, but rather to get the community to start considering what the “new Adobe” means to our beloved applications on both sides of the equation.
