The new MacBook is great. I happen to be writing this on my new black MacBook that I’ve had for about three weeks now. I opted for the black since it does feel more professional to me. Yes, it’s silly about the $150 premium for black. You’d think Apple could’ve thrown in something else to explain the cost and a better nod towards it being meant for the professional end. But as the Macworld editors have pointed out that this is a similar tactic to what they did with the U2 iPod. It is a price premium but Macworld also think it’s to help manage demand.

QuickTime 7.1.1 Available, Fixes CS2 Installer Freeze. Apple has updated QuickTime to version 7.1.1, addressing the issue that caused the Photoshop and Creative Suite installers to freeze on Intel-based systems. According to Macsimum News, which translated an article from MacGeneration, Adobe announced that it would cease development of FreeHand and GoLive during last week’s Adobe Live event.
The two applications are the first causalities from the Macromedia acquisition. Fans of the applications have been hoping against hope they would continue on. Although, the news shouldn’t come as much of a shock considering Illustrator and Dreamweaver seemed like the obvious contenders to survive. Illustrator because of its long lineage with Adobe and tight integration within the Creative Suite. Dreamweaver for its popularity in the Web development community and apparent edge over GoLive in terms of development features and performance.

Ben Long at completedigitalphotography.com has released a small but important upgrade to the Photoshop Action Pack, a collection of 73 actions which let you automate Photoshop CS or CS2 using Apple’s Automator. The new version provides full support for Intel-based Macs (in version 2, roughly a dozen actions wouldn’t work or would crash when running on Intel Macs), as well as two new actions and several bug fixes and feature additions.

(The emphasis on the word “support” is my doing. I just find the choice of this word interesting as opposed to using the word “develop”.)
