Optimizing Photoshop’s Performance on the Mac
One of the applications most of us use day-in and day-out is Photoshop. So it makes sense to stop for a couple of minutes and make sure Photoshop is perfectly tuned to get the most performance out of it that’s possible.
Adobe offers up this rather comprehensive tech doc detailing some of the settings you can adjust, plug-ins you can install, and maintenance you can perform to run your Photoshop lean and mean. Regardless if you’re running an old PowerBook or a new Quad G5, there’s probably something in this tech doc that can help you boost performance even more. It’s definitely worth a read through.
Here are some of the tips just to whet your appetite:
- Turn off the WYSIWYG font list
- Deselecting Export Clipboard
- Install the Bigger Tiles plug-in
- Reduce the number of History states
- Reduce patterns and brush tips
- Using the Filter Gallery and applying filters to individual channels
- Dragging and dropping between files
Again, to learn all about it, check out this tech doc in Adobe’s support area.
Oh, and if you’re really interested in speeding up your Photoshop tasks, related to both the application and your usage, be sure to check out Matt’s new book, The Photoshop CS2 Speed Clinic.
